Paying for private school in Tampa without paying sticker price

Most Hillsborough families who choose private school combine two or three sources. Here is the order to stack them in and where each one comes from.

Layer one: the state award

$8,429 for K-3, $7,837 for 4-8 and $7,644 for 9-12 in Hillsborough for 2026-27. At many church-run schools in East Tampa, Brandon and Plant City, that alone is most of the bill.

Layer two: the school

Need-based aid, sibling discounts and congregation-member pricing. Catholic families add parish rates.

Layer three: everything else

Community and faith-based funds, the Edu Fund partner scholarship at participating schools, and — starting January 2027 — the federal scholarship tax credit.

Younger children

VPK makes the four-year-old year free, and School Readiness can cover child care for qualifying working families.
