Tampa school vouchers, explained in plain numbers

Florida doesn't use the word voucher, but a Hillsborough child is eligible for roughly $7,600 to $8,400 a year toward private school. Here is what exists, what it pays and the deadline that matters this fall.

The number for your child

For 2026-27 the Florida Private School Scholarship pays $8,429 for grades K-3, $7,837 for grades 4-8 and $7,644 for grades 9-12 to any participating private school, for any Hillsborough student, with no income test. 146 of the county's 203 registered private schools participate.

If your child has a diagnosis

The Unique Abilities Scholarship (FES-UA) replaces the standard award with a flexible account averaging about $10,000. It covers therapies and tutoring as well as tuition, and 143 Hillsborough private schools are FES-UA participants.

If you homeschool or want a hybrid

PEP funds a home-directed account at the same Hillsborough amounts. The 2027-28 window opens February 1 and closes April 30, 2027.

The deadline this fall

New 2026-27 applications close November 15, 2026, and the award must be accepted in EMA by December 15.

What it won't pay

Tuition above the award at higher-priced schools, transportation, and most uniforms. School aid, parish pricing and the 2027 federal credit are the usual next layers.
