Getting paid to homeschool in Hillsborough County

PEP gives Hillsborough homeschool and hybrid families the same per-child amount as the private school award, in an account they direct. Here's how it works and where the local hybrid options are.

How PEP works

Apply through Step Up, file a learning plan, test annually and spend from the account on curriculum, tutors, online courses and part-time programs. The student can't also be enrolled in public school or a registered home education program.

Timing

2026-27 seats are full. Apply for 2027-28 between February 1 and April 30, 2027.

Local hybrid and microschool options

Eleven Hillsborough schools carry the state's PEP participant flag, including microschools and hybrid programs in South Tampa, East Tampa, Plant City and Riverview.

If your child has a diagnosis

FES-UA can also fund a home-based education, with a larger average award and the ability to pay therapists from the same account.
